No roof constraints
Ground-mount systems are not limited by roof pitch, orientation or structural load. Arrays can be positioned and angled for maximum solar yield.
When roof space is limited or unsuitable, a ground-mounted solar array turns underused land into a long-term energy and income-generating asset.
Ground-mounted solar removes the limits of roof size, structure and orientation, creating room for a larger system designed around your site and energy demand.

Every system is bespoke, but the table below gives a guide to typical sizes, costs and returns for commercial ground-mounted solar in the UK.
| System size | Typical setting | Indicative installed cost | Illustrative annual saving | Indicative payback |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 50–100 kWp | Farms, small commercial sites | £35,000–£75,000 | £14,000–£30,000 | 5–7 years |
| 100–250 kWp | Larger farms, estates, warehouses | £70,000–£187,500 | £28,000–£68,000 | 5–7 years |
| 250–500 kWp | Estates, manufacturing, large industrial | £175,000–£375,000 | £65,000–£135,000 | 5–8 years |
| 500 kWp+ | Large estates, multi-hectare sites | £350,000+ | £135,000+ | 5–8 years |
Figures are illustrative estimates, not quotations or guaranteed returns. They use broad UK commercial assumptions, including UK average grid electricity costs of 23p/kWh and a south-facing, unshaded ground-mounted array, and will vary with ground conditions, planning and DNO grid connection requirements, electricity tariff, on-site consumption, export value, finance and system design. A site-specific proposal will set out the assumptions used for your business. Tax treatment depends on your circumstances; seek advice from your accountant.

Yes. All ground-mounted solar systems require planning permission. We manage the planning process on your behalf, including any ecological or heritage assessments.
A 100kWp system requires approximately 0.5–0.75 acres of usable south-facing land. A 500kWp system requires approximately 2.5–3.5 acres. Exact land requirements depend on panel specification, mounting angle and row spacing.
Yes. Agrivoltaic designs are increasingly common, allowing grazing, wildflower planting or low-growing crops to continue beneath and between panel rows. This also supports biodiversity net gain requirements in planning applications.
Larger ground-mounted systems require a formal connection application to your local Distribution Network Operator (DNO). Connection timescales vary from 3 to 18 months depending on local grid capacity. We submit and manage this process from the outset.
